Love it or hate it, animal prints usually sneak their way onto fall runways, and in turn into the stores where we love to shop. I like animal prints in small doses. I can appreciate it when someone has the courage to mix an animal print with a check, stripe or floral print to create an inspired, creative look all her own. I’m just not likely to do it myself.
This weekend I’ve spent a lot (maybe too much?) time browsing Nordstrom.com checking out their Anniversary Sale that started on Friday. I’m a sale-driven shopper like anyone else, so it’s no surprise I filled up my virtual shopping bag pretty quickly.
Here are six must-have pairs.
1.) Rebecca Minkoff Noelle Embellished Platform Sneakers. Originally $149.95, on sale for $99.90. Embroidery is still on trend for fall and the colors of these floral kicks are gorgeous.
If you haven’t checked out Part I, click here to read it. Continuing on…
My third go-to high top is from one of my favorite brands, Superga. The Cotdu high top has zippers on both the left and right sides making it super easy to take on and off (no dealing with laces). These can be worn with dresses, but I most often pair them with cropped pants or denim shorts.
Raw edge cropped jeans. Jogger sweats pulled up slightly at the ankle. Cuffed menswear-style pants.
No matter how you’re wearing the pants right now (and let’s be honest, you always wear the pants), chances are your ankle is exposed. Shorter hemlines on trendy pants have created the perfect opportunity for eye-catching high top sneakers.
After a red-eye flight from LA, then a two hour drive home from Dulles airport, I arrived home to find a major Dreambox sitting on my front porch. It evoked a feeling similar to coming home to a bouquet of red roses after a trying day at work (though I’m not sure that’s ever happened to me, but it sounds fabulous). Inside the box were my new St. Laurent Court Classic sneakers in Washed Pink that I ordered from Nordstrom because they had one size left and it was MY SIZE and they were on sale. Fate had intervened!
When one thinks of velvet, the mind often goes to a burgundy vintage love seat with some wear on the armrests or a fitted navy dress from the eighties scored at a second hand store. But shift that mindset because velvet sneakers are anything but dated. In fact, they’re right on trend.
I’ve been in LA for the past few days. I love the style and energy of this city. The creativity is almost tangible as you walk through the streets.
For this trip, I had to pair down to 3 pairs of sneakers so I could carry on my bag. Aside from my Nike running shoes, I brought my favorite Golden Goose Midstars and my Golden Goose Sea Star slide-ons.
